If you want a fan that will last a lifetime, makes no noise other than the air movement, doesn't wobble or shake and has replacement parts readily available (only necessary if you mistreat the fan - I walked into one of mine with a ladder while it was running)then this is the fan for you. It isn't the most faishonable fan you can find but for function it is the best.

This is the cast iron motor fan with an oil bearing used for long life. They are heavy and require a wooden rafter hook that comes with the mounting kit. There's a restaurant in New Orleans that has these "original" style Hunters' inside since the 1950's. What's great about these Hunters is they are rated as 'energy efficient' from E.P.A.'s web site! Also, the blade pitch or motor direction is reversible (depends on model) and pull heat from the ceiling in Summer or assist the heater in Winter. There not cheap, but checking the oil level with a pipe cleaner then,if needed, add some 3 in 1 oil once a year is all that's needed for a lifetime fan. I believe these are still made in the U.S.

Had three of these fans in the house we purchased in 1986. Bought and had other fans installed in the other rooms. The Hunter fans had an oil hole where a drop or two of 3in1 oil was used twice a year. The other fans have been replaced at least twice, some thrice.The Hunter originals just kept on running, at least until an attic fire in November 2010. I salvaged the fans, broken blades an all, but was advised to replace because of the smoke. I was pleasantly suprised to find the fan is still available.
